We are really excited about our up and coming 2012-2013 year. We will be offering a new gift collection that will be available soon as well as some unexpected delights for our followers as well as for our clients. We hope that you wont be shy and we encourage your feedback; whether it be a general comment, suggestion or concern, we are interested in what you have to say.

We are sure that everyone is familiar with the old saying " A picture is worth a thousand words" .

With that in mind, how do you perceive the value of a gift basket ? We believe that a gift basket can display an intended sentiment. When you first see a basket, does it represent your recipients likes or personality, or do you choose a gift basket that best describes you ?

Many companies that offer gift baskets often struggle with what the silent consumer is looking for. They may determine that the value is best displayed with the use of color as well as enhancements such as flowers, tinted cello, streamers, or any decorative items. We believe that a gift basket should contain the best products available in a design that may differ from the traditional stand up products lining the container. Ultimately, the final decision will be yours.

The value of a gift basket can be hidden in many ways. For example, a basket that includes shipping costs within the price has a lower gift value then one that has shipping costs displayed as a separate charge. It is often referred to as Free Shipping if you purchase with that particular company.

While browsing the web for a gift basket you may find that there are so many companies available that they all start to look the same. You may find it interesting to learn that in fact, most companies do use the same suppliers and therefore, the product selection will also be the same. Maybe a different colored package will be used but ultimately the product will be the same. You may also consider the containers that are being offered. Traditional wicker baskets offer you , the consumer, a mid range value that should be reflected in the price whereas a box container will dramatically decrease the value. This helps to keep the overall price lower. Leather or suede containers offer a  luxurious, high quality gift that will increase the value or purchase price of the basket.

If any two, or more companies are offering the same products within a container, which has the greater value ?  No matter what you purchase from any store, whether it be groceries, gas or gift baskets, there has to be a charge for the product that is shipped to the store. Only then can it be made available to the consumer. Overhead costs, like a consumer would pay for utilities, rent and so on are incorporated in what we call markup fees. We can't get around them, and we all pay for them in one form or another.

I guess its fair to say that the best way to perceive the value of a gift basket is to first determine a budget that you are comfortable with. Then ask yourself will my recipient love it ? and finally, how do you feel about the gift basket? .... and does it best express your intended sentiment for wanting to send it in the first place.

Until next time .... have a great day !

Lisa

I think you are right on many of your ideas. A gift basket is as much what's in it as how it looks.
